EllisDon and project partner, DIALOG presented their hybrid timber floor system at the Faculty Club in Toronto last week to industry professionals, developers, architects, and engineers. This event was the culmination of over two years of research and development efforts, bringing the system from the back of a napkin sketch to reality! Attendees got an exclusive look at the small-scale fire test panel in person and developed an understanding of the panels and their potential to shake up the mass timber construction industry.

By combining cross-laminated timber with post-tensioned concrete to unlock a 40ft exposed timber span, the system pushes the boundaries of mass timber construction, providing a low carbon, long-span alternative to concrete and steel structures. The panel is currently undergoing full-scale prototype testing at the FPInnovations laboratory in Vancouver, with patents pending in five countries.
