EllisDon Calgary Office Achieves LEED® CI Certification

Construction company takes green commitment to next levelCalgary, March 17, 2015– EllisDon's Calgary office renovation project was recently awarded LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) CI (Commercial Interiors) certification by the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC).As the first of the company's locations to earn this stringent certification — considered the green benchmark for commercial tenant spaces— EllisDon's Calgary office has drawn new attention to its high-performance green interior; healthy and productive employee environment; and reduced environmental footprint. EllisDon's Sustainable Building Services team acted as LEED consultants on this project, a service they also extend to clients. "This certification is another example of how EllisDon 'walks the talk' when it comes to sustainability," said Shane Beazley, Vice President, Operations, Calgary. "We not only understand green office spaces, we create them at every turn— our own offices included."While in pursuit of this certification, the Sustainable Building Services team used its green expertise to produce the following project highlights:• Over 60% of project materials were recycled furniture, 35% were manufactured locally, and 10% were other recycled content • Over 80% of construction waste was diverted from the landfill site • Low Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) emitting paints, adhesives, sealants, carpets, composite woods, and furniture were all used to create an optimal indoor environment "I'm proud to have been part of a project that showcases EllisDon's commitment to using sustainable materials, and to creating indoor environments that are toxin-free and employee-friendly," said Paul Bremner, Assistant Project Manager, Sustainable Building Services. This certification speaks highly of EllisDon's ability to cooperate with landlords to reduce its energy consumption and corporate footprint. The Calgary office now joins a list of other EllisDon locations— including Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg, London, and Toronto— that have set and met their own green certification goals, from LEED® to BOMA BESt®
