EllisDon Has Reached Financial Close on the South Niagara Hospital Project

Mississauga, ON, February 21, 2023 — EllisDon Infrastructure Healthcare (EDIH) is pleased to announce that it has reached Financial Close on the South Niagara Hospital project. The consortium was recently selected by Infrastructure Ontario and Niagara Health to design, build, finance, and maintain the South Niagara hospital to be located in south Niagara Falls at the corners of Montrose and Biggar roads.

"EllisDon Infrastructure Healthcare is excited to reach commercial and financial close and we are looking forward to delivering this monumental project for the communities of South Niagara."

The 1.3 million square foot, 12-storey modernized facility, will consolidate and expand acute care services across the region. In addition to emergency, critical care and surgical services, the South Niagara Hospital will feature several centres of excellence specializing in stroke, complex care, geriatrics and geriatric psychiatry, and wellness in aging.

To meet the growing demand for care in Niagara, the new hospital is planned to have 469 beds – 156 more than the combined total number of beds at Niagara Health’s Port Colborne, Fort Erie, and Niagara Falls facilities. Oncethe hospital is complete, Niagara Health will continue to operate the existing facility in St. Catharines, along with the Welland campus.

Construction is expected to begin in July 2023 and substantial completion is expected in early 2028.
