Last Friday, Infrastructure Ontario and the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital announced that EllisDon Infrastructure STEGH Inc. signed a fixed-price contract to build and finance the hospital's Emergency, Ambulatory and Mental Health Redevelopment Project. Now that contractual steps have been completed, EllisDon can begin to mobilize on-site immediately. The scope of work involves a three-storey addition to the northwest side of the hospital that will host a new emergency department; a surgical suite; a medical devices reprocessing department; an acute mental health unit with fifteen inpatient beds and ambulatory services; and an ambulance garage. This fast-paced work will be delivered over two years, and is slated for completion in early 2018.At the peak of construction, there will be approximately 125 workers on-site and EllisDon estimates that 50 per cent will come from the London/St. Thomas area.Alfonso Balassone, EllisDon's London Area Manager, is eager to get to work. "We're excited about this win," said Balassone. "We look forward to building a great on-time and on-budget facility for the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital!"
