Learning and Growing with Construction Sciences: Matteo Lonardi's Internship Journey at EllisDon

We're excited to share the journey of Matteo Lonardi, Building and Material Sciences Intern and Civil Engineering and Management student at McMaster University, who had the opportunity to learn from various departments at EllisDon.

From a young age, Matteo looked up at construction sites and developed a passion for building and design. It's this childhood curiosity that led him to dream of working with us here at EllisDon, a dream that's become a concrete reality (pun intended!). During his 16-month internship, he developed practical and personal skills that will help him pursue his passions as his career develops.

Matteo was tasked with completing a variety of technical tasks during his internship at EllisDon. He played an integral role in Construction Sciences’ contribution to the Centre Block project at Parliament in Ottawa, ON, utilising concrete thermal modelling software and submitting technical documents to confirm that concrete is poured in line with site specifications. He completed concrete quality checks and tracked internal concrete temperatures over time while collaborating with industry professionals on various sites, including the Centre Block project and the Cowichan District Hospital site in Duncan, BC.

Matteo's journey is a testament to the opportunities for growth and development available to interns at EllisDon. We're proud to have played a part in helping him develop the skills and experience needed to pursue his passion for building and construction.

He will be taking the knowledge and relationships he has fostered during his time at EllisDon with him in his future career path in the construction and design industry!
