Clayton Community Centre wins Gold at the Vancouver Regional Construction Association’s (VRCA) Awards of Excellence Gala

The Clayton Community Centre project has won Gold at the Vancouver Regional Construction Association’s (VCRA) 2021 Awards of Excellence Gala in the category of General Contractor - $20 million to $50 million.

Following Clayton Community Centre achieving VCRA’s 2021 Silver Excellence Awards in August of last year, the project was chosen out of two other Silver recipients to receive the Gold award.

The Awards of Excellence recognize the VRCA’s finest member companies and feature industrial, commercial, institutional, multi-family residential, and special projects. Criteria for the awards included financial benchmarks, use of innovative techniques, challenges and resolutions, safety records, and/or exceptional project management.

Located in Surrey, B.C., the Clayton Community Centre is the first of its kind to achieve Passive House in North America, and Canada’s largest Passive House facility to date. EllisDon led the construction of the project beginning in 2018, setting a new standard for community centres in the region.

The Clayton Community Centre was designed to complement the City of Surrey’s goals under their Sustainability Charter, Wood First Policy, and accessibility initiatives. The centre’s steel and concrete structure supports a one-of-a-kind glue-laminated roof structure and is at the leading edge of energy-efficient design and construction by achieving its International Passive House Certification.
