EllisDon Achieves Substantial Completion on Groves Memorial Community Hospital in Ontario's Wellington County
Mississauga, ON, March 11, 2020— Today, EllisDon announced substantial completion on the Groves Memorial Community Hospital ("GMCH") development project. The new 45-bed hospital located in Ontario's Wellington County replaces the existing GMCH facility and will serve the towns of Fergus, Elora, and surrounding communities. Built on a 30-acre greenfield site, the 152,000 sq. ft. hospital is larger than its predecessor and includes more space for the emergency, diagnostic imaging and ambulatory care departments to accommodate the growing population of its communities."Hospital projects are very complex today with the numerous technology systems required for modern patient care. Achieving substantial completion is no easy task, as it requires long hours, hard work, dedication and teamwork from a number of different organizations and individuals throughout the process," said Alfonso Balassone, Senior Vice President, Area Manager, Southwestern Ontario, EllisDon.The three-storey facility has been designed to incorporate a modernized layout with better coordination between key clinical areas; an increased number of private patient rooms; expanded emergency department and an ambulatory care area. The hospital also integrates into the Grand River trail network and its natural surroundings."EllisDon and myself would like to thank the entire EllisDon Groves project team, including our Managed Services group, our Design and Construction Partners, and everyone involved on this project for reaching substantial completion on the Groves Memorial Hospital project," said Balassone.EllisDon was awarded the fixed-price contract to design, build, and finance the $127.5 million project by Infrastructure Ontario and GMHC in summer 2017. Construction commenced shortly thereafter. The new hospital is set to open its doors this summer as the construction team hands over the keys to the province. For the full press release, click HERE
