For the past 18 months, three waves of the COVID-19 virus and its variants have plagued our community, isolated residents in long-term care centres and overloaded our hospitals. Through it all, healthcare providers have been putting themselves at the greatest risk to ensure the health and safety of our community.

As a way of showing our appreciation, the EllisDon Calgary team organized the renovation of the new North Terrace Respite Space at the Foothills Medical Centre (FMC) as a way to honor the extraordinary efforts of all FMC healthcare workers, staff and volunteers throughout the pandemic. The design, construction expertise and materials for the outdoor respite area were assembled with the help of multiple sub-trade partners of EllisDon (please see the full list below). Now officially completed, the area was given back to the hospital on September 7th in a small and intimate ribbon cutting ceremony.

As we enter the fourth wave of COVID-19, the Calgary team has partnered with Oxford Properties and the Calgary Health Foundation to fundraise and bring these rejuvenating outdoor courtyard spaces to multiple hospitals across the city including Rockyview General Hospital, Peter Lougheed Centre, and the South Health Campus.We hope that these spaces are a continued place of respite, community, remembrance, solace and renewal for our healthcare heroes.
