EllisDon Steps Up for Steps For Life

EllisDon never fails to go above and beyond when employees work together, and they did just that participating in the 2019 Steps For Life charity walk. Steps for Life is a 5 km fundraising walk to help support families affected by life-altering workplace injuries, illnesses and deaths.Teams from across EllisDon worked together to raise over $19,000, beating the initial $5,000 goal by a landslide. EllisDon placed second in the top five national donating teams.

“With construction being a high-risk profession, I believe this walk is a great cause to educate and raise awareness on health and safety in the workplace across the board,” said Olivia D’Aquila, Health Safety and Environment Coordinator, EllisDon Toronto. At EllisDon safety is a top priority. Our Health Safety and Environment program is an industry leading, practice-based system with an outstanding history of success. The intention is to create a rigorous, effective safety environment that extends to all employees, site visitors and the public. EllisDon makes a firm commitment to achieve world class safety by educating workers on occupational hazards and actively promoting a safe and healthy workplace.

“As a safety coordinator I feel it is my duty to make sure all of our workers and subcontractors on site go home safe to their families every night. As well, here at EllisDon, we believe safety is vital and we incorporate safety in every task we do on the job as a priority. I walk because it raises awareness throughout our industry on why work-related injuries, illnesses and fatalities are unacceptable in the workplace,” said Olivia.

The Steps for Life fundraiser is an initiative that provides programs for individuals personally affected by workplace trauma. Today, three workers in Canada will be critically injured on the job, and over 1,000 families will be devastated by a workplace tragedy this year.EllisDon is proud to be a continued supporter of the Steps for Life charity walk. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this cause and made it a great success.
