EllisDon Trialing Renewable Diesel in Ontario and British Columbia
As EllisDon continues its journey to net-zero, we have identified renewable diesel as one of the key opportunities to dramatically reduce the carbon impact of our construction sites. Renewable diesel is a lower carbon fuel replacement to traditional petroleum-based diesel that is derived from vegetable oils and animal fats. This sustainable alternative is processed to be chemically identical to conventional diesel fuel, offering 75-80% emissions reductions – with no sacrifice in quality, reliability, or efficiency, and no need to modify existing machinery or fuel distribution infrastructure.
EllisDon has launched a renewable diesel pilot program across five of our projects in British Columbia and Ontario this summer. We are committed to closely monitoring the emissions reductions and operational impacts associated with this fuel replacement initiative. As alternative fuel products become more readily available across the country, we will be expanding the use of lower-emission fuels and expand the use of renewable diesel to other construction sites to reduce our on-site emissions at a larger scale.
EllisDon is dedicated to exploring new technologies and innovative solutions that help reduce environmental impact and promote a cleaner, greener future.
