Every Child Matters

Our hearts are with the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc community and all Indigenous communities who are mourning the loss of 215 children who were discovered at a former Kamloops Residential School. We stand together in solidarity, and honour the survivors of residential schools, their families, and those who did not make it home. At EllisDon, we understand that it is the responsibility of all Canadians to listen, learn and acknowledge the truth about our nation’s history. We stand in solidarity and support of our Indigenous communities.“We are horrified by the discovery of the remains of the 215 Indigenous children found buried at former B.C. residential school,” says Jane Chapman, Chair of EllisDon ALLiED (ALL inclusive at EllisDon) Group. “Only when we continue to learn, listen and educate ourselves and others on the atrocities and truths in our Canadian history will we be able to heal and reconcile our future.” EllisDon is inviting all of our area offices and project sites nationwide to lower flags at half-mast to honour the memory of the children whose lives were unjustly lost in the residential school system.EllisDon employees nationwide have access to various courses, educational resources and panel discussions to learn more about the unique heritage and contributions of Indigenous Peoples as well as the many issues that are still present today. Contact the Indian Residential School Survivors Society for counselling support available at 1-800-721-0066, or a national 24/7 Crisis Line at 1-866-925-4419.
