One Year In: South Niagara Hospital Construction Progress

It's been one year since the groundbreaking ceremony for the new South Niagara Hospital, and we're thrilled to share significant progress that has been made. In partnership with Infrastructure Ontario and Niagara Health, we want to thank the EllisDon crew for their hard work and Infrastructure Healthcare (EDIH) as the long-awaited hospital is beginning to take shape.

Excavation for the foundation and basement level is complete, and more than 1,250 steel piles have been inserted into the bedrock. Elevator shafts and stairs are also taking shape. On average, more than 200 skilled workers are on-site each day, and in peak construction periods, this number is expected to increase to over 1,000.

Niagara Health is committed to making the South Niagara Hospital the first WELL-certified hospital in Canada. By incorporating innovative design elements prioritizing the health and well-being of patients, families, and staff, the 1.3-million-square-foot facility will attract top healthcare professionals and improve the overall care experience.

We're proud to be making progress on this vital cornerstone of Niagara Health's three-site hospital system. Stay tuned for more updates on the construction of this state-of-the-art facility.
