EllisDon launches The Carbon Impact Initiative Action Plan in support of Canada’s international climate change commitments
EllisDon in collaboration with government leaders is set to release The Carbon Impact Initiative Action Plan on June 15, 2016.
Mississauga, ON, June 6, 2016 – EllisDon has partnered with six of the most influential companies in Canada to develop an industry-led action plan in support of Canada’s international climate change commitments. The Carbon Impact Initiative Action Plan is set to be released on June 15 th , 2016. Through this initiative industry executives along with government leaders explore carbon reduction strategies during project development as well as formulate tools to achieve a true low carbon accounting system.“We will set in motion the tools and resources required to showcase Canada’s commitments through large scale projects,” said Andrew Bowerbank, Global Director of Sustainable Building Services at EllisDon. “The Carbon Impact Initiative will provide the leadership required to transform our market toward a low-carbon economy.”In response to the bold climate change commitments made by Canada at COP21 Paris, EllisDon has partnered with BASF Canada, WSP Group, Cement Association of Canada, Cricket Energy, Enbridge Gas Distribution and Cisco Systems to develop the Carbon Impact Initiative. In February, they brought together united seventy senior industry executives to discuss how the industry can work together transform the market toward a low-carbon economy. Using the recommendations and observations from the discussions, the seven partners developed the Industry Response Strategy that details the four key action items that EllisDon and its partners will act on.Following COP21 Paris, Catherine McKenna, Canadian Minister of Environment and Climate Change, stated that “The world needs new ideas, smart solutions and sustained effort to meet the environmental challenges we face,” and the Carbon Impact Initiative aims to meet this challenge.
