EllisDon Named a Winner of Canada's Greenest Employers Competition
Mississauga, ON, April 21, 2017— Today, EllisDon was announced as one of the winners of Canada’s Greenest Employers competition by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers. Now entering its 10th year, Canada’s Greenest Employers is an annual competition that recognizes employers that lead the nation in creating a culture of environmental awareness.“EllisDon continues to strive to establish a leadership position in the market through economic, social, and environmental initiatives. With the current challenges around climate change, carbon emissions, and resource efficiency, it is important for Canadian leadership to prepare an effective response strategy,” said Andrew Bowerbank, Global Director, Sustainable Building Services, EllisDon.Last year, EllisDon partnered with seven of the most influential companies in Canada to develop an industry-led action plan in support of Canada’s national and international climate change commitments. The Carbon Impact Initiative (CII), launched under EllisDon’s Low Carbon Agenda, brings together industry champions and government leaders to create strategies and establish low-carbon built environments in Canada. They work across sectors to reduce the carbon impact of commercial buildings, throughout all stages of development. Together, these initiatives work to support the regional growth and economic prosperity of communities across Canada for a sustainable, low carbon future.
“Our efforts to adapt new urban infrastructure through carbon neutral targets and net zero energy buildings will set the standard for future generation. EllisDon is honored to be recognized for our efforts to transform the construction sector towards a low carbon economy,” Bowerbank added.Winning employers are evaluated by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers based criteria such as unique environmental initiatives or programs developed, whether they have been successful in reducing their own environmental footprint, involved in these programs and contribute unique skills, and whether their environmental initiatives have become linked to the employer’s public identity to attract new people to the organization.“Over the years, we’ve seen a shift towards more formal programs and strategic sustainability policies, which reflect a much longer term commitment on the part of employers. This year’s winners aren’t afraid to address the adverse impacts of their operations and are charting the course for others in their industry,” said Richard Yerema, Managing Editor of the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project at Mediacorp.
